Meet Gary Masino

Gary J. As a third-generation sheet metal worker with 40 years’ experience in the industry, Gary has served as an organizer and business representative for the union before being elected President and Business Manager in 2011. His contributions and tireless commitment to the labor movement have earned him the respect and recognition of his peers, who have elevated him to multiple leadership positions since his election. Gary is the current President of the Pennsylvania State Council of Sheet Metal Workers, and Vice President of the New Jersey State Council of Sheet Metal Workers. He is also serves as an Executive Board Member of the Pennsylvania State Building Trades and the Philadelphia AFL-CIO, is a member of the Metropolitan Association of Presidents and Business Representatives, and Co-Chairman of the Health and Welfare Funds, Joint Apprenticeship and Training Council, Scholarship Fund, and Sheet Metal Industry Advancement Committee of Local 19.

Gary’s leadership and industry expertise led former Mayor Michael Nutter to appoint him to the Philadelphia Department of Licensing and Inspection’s Board of Appeals in 2012, and in 2014 he was appointed to the Philadelphia Zoning Board.   In 2015, Governor Tom Wolf appointed Gary to his Transition Committee for Labor and Industry, and in 2016 he appointed him to be a Commissioner on the Delaware River Port Authority Board, where he oversaw the bridges and ports in the Tri-State Area until 2019.  In June of 2018, Governor Wolf appointed Gary to the Pennsylvania Economic Development Financing Authority Board (PEDFA), whereupon the PA Senate unanimously (49-0) approved Gary to the PEDFA Board for a four-year term.   In March of 2020, Gary was appointed to the Pennsylvania Convention Center Board of Directors.  In October of 2020, the Senate unanimously appointed Gary as a Board Member to the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board.  In November of 2021, Gary was appointed to be the Assistant Business Manager of the Philadelphia Building Trades.

Currently Masino resides in northeast Philadelphia with his wife, Karen, and their five children. Their oldest son, Gary Jr., is a graduate of Widener University, and along with their second-oldest son Eric both siblings have decided to follow in their father’s footsteps to become fourth-generation sheet metal workers in Local 19.

Throughout his career, Gary has felt it very important to give back to our communities and philanthropic causes and has used his position as a Labor Leader to create and spread good in our world. From investments in our neighborhoods throughout the region to donating to charities and community events. He knows that with success comes responsibility to our society to help lift others up who need a hand. Because that is exactly what labor unions have always done.
